Getting Ready For An Art Show

Usually, when preparing for an art show, I am only concerned with one piece of art. Next Wednesday, I am taking five pieces of art down to the Chico Art Center to display them in a unique art show. This show will bring over forty artists and artisans together, and we each have a specified space with which we can fill up with as much art as we can. The art center will be "crammed" with art! I have been busy preparing my pieces for the show. Here are the things I have been doing to get ready for this art show:
1) Inspect each art piece to make sure they are all clean and in perfect condition. I did have to glue back on a couple tiny pieces here and there, as sometimes moving them around from storage to an art show can cause a tiny piece to pop off (just on my un-grouted pieces though).
2) Make a label for each art piece that includes the name of the piece, what materials I used, and how much it is for sale for.
3) Make what I call "certificates" for each piece that includes special care instructions, the catalogue number of the piece (I catalogue all my art work), the date the piece was completed, and anything unique or special I wish to share with the new owners about the piece.
4) Make a sign that I will frame and place in my space that includes my name, as well as a brief artists bio. As this is a "salon style" show, each artist is in charge of hanging his or her own work. And each artist will receive 100% of the sale price of the art. So, this unique art show provides an opportunity to "advertise" yourself as an artist.
5) Make sure my business cards are updated (I had to add on the URL to this new blog onto my business cards!). I am going to try to figure out a way to hang a little business card holder next to my framed artists bio in my space so that people can help themselves to a business card if they want.

If you find yourself in Chico this December, stop by the Chico Art Center on Orange Street and experience this unique art show for yourself (and maybe even buy a couple one-of-a-kind Christmas gifts as well!).

Where you can find my work

I currently have picture frames, Christmas ornaments and a mirror for sale at Made in Chico.
I will also be showing my fine art, as well as a mantle clock, and a mirror at the Chico Art Center starting December 9th.
If you have an idea for a commission, I am open to small-works commissions or larger commissions with extended work time. Just email me at DavidFinlan@hotmail.com, and send me your idea and contact information and we can discuss the details!
